Kolkata Heads began rolling after the February 15 Naxal attack on Silda EFR camp when Kuldip Singh, IG (Western Range), the key officer in-charge of anti-Maoists operations in the three districts of Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore, was today transferred as IG (organisation).

Singh will be replaced by Zulfiqar Hassan, IG, (administration), who is also currently posted at the Writers’ Buildings.

Only a day before, Singh was named as a member of the three-member committee headed by Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen to probe into the attack on the Silda camp.

Asked if it has anything to do with the Silda attack, Sen said, “Well, not exactly. But of course, the move has been taken to tone up the administration in the Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas.”

The committee, set up yesterday, has been given two months to submit its report.

As part of the reshuffle, DIG (Midnapore range) Piyush Pandey will be replaced by DIG (Railways) Anil Kumar. Pandey has been transferred to Delhi.

In politically sensitive East Midnapore district, Ashok Biswas will take over as SP replacing Bastava Vaidya, who will join the CID as a special superintendent.
