There is no sign of people hanging around and waiting to meet their representatives. At the VIP gate, one of the several entry points to the officer and used by the Mayor, Chairman and Member-Mayor-in-Councils (MMiCs), a gatekeeper greets with a comment: “What more you want to see here? Everything has changed by the winds of change. This Choto Lalbari will not stay long. They will make it green also. I will not be here to see that.”
Green is the colour of Trinamool and yesterday the ecstatic supporters even unfurled the party flag on the porch of the building.
The outgoing mayor, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, was seen today clearing all the pending files. “I have cleared them all. As far as I know, the date for the swearing-in of the next mayor and councillors have been fixed on June 14. In the meantime, I will come to the office if any major file needs a clearance of the mayor,” said Bhattacharya.
The doors of the MMiCs chambers remained closed and the employees of the KMC were looking bored as a large of them left office after 2 pm. “At least 20 senior officers have already applied for transfers. All of them have sought postings in other departments of the state government. We are also expecting a huge reshuffle,” a senior KMC official said.
In 2000 too, when the Trinamool came to power at the KMC, there was a major reshuffle.
“The personal assistant of the mayor was also changed. All the departmental heads were also changed,” the official added.
