Dr Manmohan Singh is gyrating to a hula hoop made of the nuclear particles. He is also bending forwards as the Maharaja mascot, trading his turban for a Stetson cowboy hat while struggling in a tug-of-war with Prakash Karat. He might be recovering from his bypass surgery but in the last year, our Prime Ministerji has captured every cartoonist’s imagination and 123 cartoons of him were on display last evening at the Press Club of India. “The Kerala Cartoon Academy (KCA) organised an exhibition of cartoons about Dr Singh and the 1-2-3 Nuclear Deal. While this has been a great platform to showcase such varied work on a specific issue, we also realised that we did not have a national association for cartoonists,” said Uday Shankar Ganguly, the first general secretary of the newly-formed Indian Cartoonists Association that flagged off with this one-day exhibition. The event has been supported by the Press Club of India.

The KCA initially received 500 entries for the exhibition but keeping with the theme, only 123 made it. Some of the work is a part of the dailies the cartoonists work for, while some have even been sent from outside Kerala. “We would have liked the exhibition to go on in Delhi for some more time, but the exhibition is travelling back to the South and on Wednesday, the works will be on display at Kochi,” said Ganguly.
