New Delhi, January 4 About 65 per cent flights were delayed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday as only one runway could be used for a large part of the day due to low visibility.

Flights were delayed for nearly three hours, as the Capital recorded a minimum temperature of 3 degree Celsius.

Once again, domestic arrivals were the most affected as nearly 90 per cent flights were delayed.

However, international flights remained largely unaffected.

“Barring a few international and domestic flights, most were on time,” airport officials said.

As visibility did not dip below 350 m, the airport did not have to use low visibility procedures like CAT landings.

However, for security reasons, airport authorities switched to standard safeguard procedures at around 4.10 am.

From 10 pm on Thursday to 8 am on Friday, a single runway was in use at the airport.

However, visibility improved today morning and both runways could be used simultaneously till 2 pm. The visibility dropped once again at around 6 pm, and only the primary runway could be used.

This is the second instance this year when the airport had used safeguard procedures.
