A bandh called by 'Sriram Sena' to protest stabbing of one of its activists on Monday evoked good response in the area as most of the shops, business establishments, schools and colleges remained closed on Tuesday, the police added.
Police are maintaining tight vigil in all the areas and over 50 suspected Bajrang Dal activists have been arrested in connection with the attack in the three districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikmagalur.
On Monday, hundreds of Christians took to streets in parts of Mangalore and Bantwal protesting Sunday's attack on churches and prayer houses over alleged forcible conversions by Missionaries, a charge denied by the Bishop of Mangalore.

Naturally, the real and starving people will go to any extent ( conversion of religions or even prostitution ) to survive and feed their starving children.

I have noticed a recurring theme about how "christian" colleges are discriminatory against non-christians. Why do the same authors not talk about the amount of non-christians that have been educated at chrisitian insitutions throughout India or have been healed at "christian" hospitals. Any college that is private has its own guidelines for making their decisions, they are financed by donations and can make their own decisions. Same goes for conversions, anyone should have the right to convert to any religion, as long as they are not being forced, financial incentives, sexual gratification, spiritual satisfaction are all factors that people can use. No one is preventing any religion from starting their own hospitals, schools etc. Any taxpayer funded institution has to service all taxpayers without descrimination.None of the above is any reason to even allow the possibility of mob behavior, where people can attack innocent people, destroy property.

Here are the facts 1. The Following are the list of abuses from one such book – Satya Darshini – distributed by the missionaries of New Life. This book is in Kannada and the translation of the abusive passage is as follows. o Urvashi – the daughter of Lord Vishnu – is a prostitute. Vashitha is the son of this prostitute. He in turn married his own Mother. Such a degraded person is the Guru of the Hindu God Rama. (page 48) o When Krishna himself is wallowing in darkness of hell, how can he enlighten others? Since Krishna himself is a shady character, there is a need for us to liberate his misled followers. (page 50)• o It was Brahma himself who kidnapped Sita. Since Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva were themselves the victims of lust, it is a sin to consider them as Gods. (page 39) o When the Trinity of Hinduism (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) are consumed by lust and anger, how can they liberate others. Their projection as Gods is nothing but a joke. (page 39). o When Vishnu asked Brahma to commit a sin, he immediately did so. How can such a "evil brahma" be a Creator of this Universe? How is it possible for both the sinner and the entity which provoked the sin to be gods? (page 39) o God, please liberate the sinful people of India who are worshipping False Gods that believe in the pleasures of illicit 'Vyabichari' relationships. (Page 39). 1. All the 16 incidents that took place were not attack on Churches. In fact, unauthorized prayer halls were attacked where the blasphemous pamphlets were distributed and aggressive proselytisation was taking place. These 16 incidents were not localized but took place across three districts of Mangalore, Udupi and Chikmagalur. 2. The only place where attacks took place apart from New Life Prayer Halls was at a small prayer hall in the premises of Milagres Church in Mangalore, where some miscreants had damaged a Jesus idol. The VHP and the Bajrang Dal have condemned the attack at this place. Following this incident, a Christian mob gathered and the situation went out of control as the mob started pelting stones and disrupting traffic. The police was forced to intervene and this resulted in unsavoury violence. 3. Since the past two days, it is not Hindu-Christian clashes that are taking place. In fact, it is more appropriate to call it"Christian-Police" clashes since the Christians holed up in Churches have engaged themselves in pelting of stones and disruption of traffic. The Police were forced to enter the Church to clear the mob and they found arms inside the Church. 4. Incidents of Stabbing were reported in around four or five places across Mangalore district. In fact, an activist belonging to Shri Ram Sena was stabbed which led to a bandh call by Shri Ram Sena – a Hindu outfit that is not connected to Sangh Parivar. 5. The VHP and the Bajrang Dal have condemned the desecration of Jesus idol at the prayer hall adjacent to the Milagres Church in Mangalore. They have also clarified that they are not against the Catholic faith and the Churches. However, they have clarified that the public outcry would continue as long as illicit conversion activities and blasphemy of Hindu gods take place. 6. Even the Kandhmahal murder — which involved the killing of Hindu monk Swami Lakshmananda by missionaries – seems to have caste a shadow on this incident since the general public seems to have seen through Christian aggression. 7. It may be recalled that there was a public outcry against illegal prayer halls in Davanagere district last week. In that case, the administration had closed the unauthorized prayer halls that were mushrooming in the region.

The maiming and hospitalisation or killing and death of any human being, participant or a bystander, innocent or guilty, in any riot or agitation makes me profoundly sad. Indian agitations, as I have seen them, are the bloodiest in the world. I have seen them happen, could smell the pungency of death, tasted the salt in my mouth, brushed shoulders with them and stared at them full face, just as I have seen them on the battered faces of those who have been hit by the police. The sight of such beatings and the taste of blood revolts me. It fills me with maniacal hatred for the police and those in authority, something which make me understand why oppressed peoples go on a murder rampage after a successful revolution. Countless innocent people have died in lathi-charges in countless crowd control happenings in our country over the years. They have been paralysed for months and years and laid down their lives without question or even a promise for a better tomorrow for their children and thousands of women have been widowed and children orphaned. And since thousands have been maimed, hospitalised or have died in lathi-charges, the use of lethal lathis for crowd control requires serious questioning. Aren’t there any other methods of controlling the crowds? There are. Since there is at least one such adventure by the police every other week in our country and sometime several in a given week, an answer to this question is urgent.
There is increasing religious intolerance as evidenced by the incidents in Karnataka Religions created by the humankind itself are dividing it more and more by some of the practitioners. There need to be respect for all religions. There should not be any force on to follow any particular religion. Economic weakness should not be exploited for accepting any religion. Our religious leaders may have to work for peace in the society. It appears more important that they preach the followers to respect other religions. The heads of various religions meet periodically and exchange ideas to bring peace, harmony and prosperity to the society. The religious leaders need to see how they can uplift the economically backward people. What is happening in Karnataka is undesirable. Karnataka is a state known for tolerance and progress. The image needs to be maintained. All concerned should make concerted efforts to normalize the situation and to avoid reoccurrence of such incidents.

The real stumble is on the issue of righteous deed, or so I figure.At the same time we must not forget the fact that we follow a particular religion just because we are born in to it ! 99.99% times so at least. Then we are brought up to support it; somewhere along the line is sown the seed of your religion being superior to the others' ! That is but human ! All religions came into being in the first place to reign in the wrongdoers, advantage takers (of the helpless and weak), evil minded people; and to foster a general law and order as perceived at that time. In essence all religions teach one and all to be a decent human being, do your duties as applicable and be good to society in general. All other glorified rituals are mundane in comparison to these fundamental issues. But alas! That very thing goes underground due to various reasons. That's the trgaedy of all religions.

Those were Buddhist missionaries, not Hindu. Buddhism does allow prozelytization. A subtle but important difference! Even Hindus don't mind, if it is a genuine change of heart after a long study and comparison without any material inducements. But, what has provoked Hindus is the hideous practice by Christian missionaries in converting the vulnerable, uneducated and poor communities. You get a bowl of rice for your soul!

A Christian student who gets 60% marks get admission in Christian Educational Institutions while his Hindu friend who has got 80% is rejected because he is a HINDU. Otherwise, all other religions which are now suffering in our country will get-toegether to stop IT ONCE AND FOR ALL. UNITY is strength. So dont say what the other person did or did not do? You as a good citizen and a religious person bring peaceful solutions where all religions can live happily. Try to bring peace and harmony amongst all our brothers and sisters.
I have my daughter studying in one of the schools. We are hindus, but we have no problems, children learn about faith and love and respect from home more than schools. So if your home has love and respect and the family has time to teach what is religion, no matter what comes in the way, they will still have faith in that religion, nothing will ever convert them... that is strong faith. We religious hindus dont believe in Terrorist act, if the Govt does not act, tomorrow our children may be have to face such cruel terrorists.

actually some christian missionary are responsable for communal tense. as it is being cleared taht they are promoting convertion in most part of the country .laxmanand has been assisinated but still Orissa government has not any clue to nab the culprit. We have right to know thwt what christian missionary is doing in the name of human service.
No missionery is forcibly converting any human. Sad to say, we hindus cannot draw another human by way of love and care. Let us practise more love and pray to our God for that to stop this terrorists activities in the name of Hindusm , tarnishing our own religion in the eyes of the world. If a person converts, let it be, it is his life, not yours and mine.

It has enough inherent strength to come out of the stupid attempts of the so called missionaries. Anyway the missionaries in tamil nadu have proved themselves to be rapists, thugs and polygamists and steadily but silently large nos. of people are coming back to hindu religion. Every other week tamil vernacular magazines comes out with escapades of pastors and fathers. Christianity's failure is all apparent - europe has rejected it, only americas (south and north) are still cringing to it. As time passes they too will realize its meaninglesness and may be then convert themselves to muslims. Negroes are already doing that in US. Hinduism is not in race with anybody and doesnt believes in more the merrier stuff as believed by middle east nonsense faiths.
