New Delhi A city court on Monday remanded six suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists to two days in police custody for their alleged role in the September 13 serial blasts case. The accused - Mohammed Saif, Zeeshan Ahmed, Saquib Nissar, Zia-Ur-Rehman, Mohd Shakeel and Mohd Hakim were produced in the court after being ‘formally arrested’ by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police in connection with the blasts in Connaught Place.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaweri Baweja remanded the accused to police custody till February 4 after the special cell submitted that it needed to quiz the accused to “unravel” their specific roles in the CP blasts.

The police contended that the accused needed to be interrogated about the planning and the execution of the blasts. Saif had planted the bombs in dustbins near Regal Cinema and at the children’s park near India Gate, along with co-accused Zia-ur-Rehman and Sajid, who was killed in the Batla House encounter on September 19. Moving the remand application, the police added that Hakim had allegedly arranged ball bearings for the bombs used in the blasts.

Opposing the demand for custody the defence counsel argued that the accused had been remanded to police custody earlier, and they had already been interrogated at length at the time by the investigating agency.

The court had earlier sent all the six accused to judicial custody that ended on Monday, for interrogation in connection with their role in the blasts in Karol Bagh and Greater Kailash.

All the accused have been booked under various provisions of the IPC, the Explosive Substances Act and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, for their alleged role in the September 13 serial blasts in the Capital that had claimed 26 lives and injured several others.
