Kolkata The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday arrested six persons for allegedly trading in fake antiques and duping customers of nearly Rs 1.5 crore.

They were produced in the Alipore Court and remanded in police custody for 14 days.

CID sources said Subhajit Basu, Deep Ghosh, Rajiv Sikdar, Tapan Roy, Tarun Roy and Ajit Dev were arrested from several places on the city’s outskirts.

Nearly three years ago, they had opened a shop in Siliguri and stocked it with fake antique items like coins and statues.

“The shop was run by an associate named Amit. Customers would be asked to pay advance, given Kolkata addresses of the accused, and asked to collect item from them. The accused, however, would stall the delivery citing various excuses,” sources said.

On many occasions, customers were made to pay more and roughed up also, said the source.
