Sony unveils its new Recording Media and Energy line-up

AS we move on from high-megapixel compact cameras to the latest digital single-lens reflex cameras with five frames per second and camcorders, there’s one thing that gets really big — the file size. “This, in turns puts pressure on flash memory and increases the demand for high capacity memory sticks,” points out Mark Waki, Head of Department, Recording Media & Energy Group, Sony India Pvt Ltd, as he takes seat at Taj, Sector 17, to announce the launch of new range in Recording Media and Energy line-up at a retailers meet. With Memory Sticks Pro DUO, HX high speed models displayed for starters, “these come with unique data rescue service feature and a five years warranty,” Waki lists, adding that they can shorten data transfer time by one-third compared to the earlier models. Also, solving high memory problems is the optical segment, the latest Blu-ray technology. “For instance a Blu-ray Disc saves substantially more data because of the wavelength,” he lists, also announcing the new model of Retractable Pen Drive - Micro Vault, but not before shifting his focus towards products that are eco-friendly. “You cannot make products and ignore their ecological angle,” voices Waki, as he tells us about chargers and rechargeable batteries, which can be charged up to 1000 times with low self-discharge property.

Recording Media, being among the few segments that are expecting profits despite the slowdown, “the meet was also organised to appraise the retailers about 20 to 30 per cent demand expected in this financial year and to tell them to watch out for fake products especially in Memory Stick and Energy categories,” he sums off.
