Incidentally, the AMC has in public announcements, told the slum-dwellers that they will be evacuated on Thursday morning before the proceedings begin in the High Court.
The AMC has reportedly also said in its notice that there will be ample police bandobast for that day and the whole area would be cordoned off when the demolition is on.
The families reside in three plots on either sides of the road connecting Vadaj with Nava Vadaj.
The AMC had brought forth a new resolution in 2004 dealing with resettlement in cases of land acquisition.
The resolution said that all those residing on the land before 1995 would be eligible for getting alternative land in case of displacement. The earlier policy in this regard had fixed the cut-off year to 1976.
This resolution was, however, quashed by the State government on the ground that many cases of similar nature were pending in the courts and therefore no new resettlement policy, providing alternative land, could come through. This decision has been stayed by the high court.
Meanwhile, the slum-dwellers had also filed a petition in the high court saying that they should be relocated under the AMC’s new resolution which had set the cut off year to 1995 for getting land in lieu of land.
The residents are also demanding that they should be accommodated under the various JNNURM schemes for the urban poor.
In the representation, a copy of which has also been sent to the Municipal Commissioner and the police commissioner, the residents have said that they are apprehending the use of force by police when the corporation forcibly evacuates them.
