Ahmedabad 700 guests, 15-course dinner, imported necklace as gift — it’s all there as Chinki turns one

Forget the meltdown gloom. It was party time at the Madhuram Park in Maninagar on Sunday. Decorated with flowers all over, carpets and lighting, it looked like any other ‘expensive’ birthday party thrown by the Mistrys to celebrate the first birthday of Chinki.

When looked closely, it turned out to be an extraordinary party, as Chinki is a dog belonging to the Labrador breed. Sporting a pearl necklace, Chinki celebrated her first birthday in the presence of over 700 guests and the Mistrys, who think she is their lucky mascot.

Chinki’s master, Yogesh Mistry, a contractor by profession, said the house was specially repainted for the birthday. Over 500 invitation cards were distributed in Maninagar alone. After Chinki cut a specially-made 5-kg cake, the guests were served a 15-course dinner, followed by some music and dance orchestrated by a Disc Jockey.

With birthday comes gifts and Chinki was not deprived of this either. A pearl necklace was bought for her all the way from Singapore. If this was not enough, the trustees of the Sai Baba Temple got her a huge garland straight form Shirdi, as she belongs to that place.

Apart from getting a special designer seat fitted for her in the family’s new car, Mistry has also made a fixed deposit on Chinki’s name in his bank account for her future use.

As the celebration reached its peak, the neighbours of the Mistrys stood glued to their windows, many of them disappointed. “We can understand feelings for a dog, but how can anyone justify spending lakhs on a dog’s birthday?” asked one of them.
