Expressing disgruntlement with the government policies, Kamal Chaitly, vice-president of BJP district unit and president of the Ludhiana Property Dealers’ and Colonisers’ Association, said: “During the previous Congress government’s tenure, the licence fee was Rs 3.5 lakh per acre for a colony, which was increased to Rs 35 lakh per acre by the new government. Even the minimum size of a colony has been increased from 10 acres to 75 acres. Owing to this, only big colonisers are able to develop property while the small builders have perished.”
Member of the SAD Working Committee Kultar Singh Jogi, Deepak Badyal, Harish Tandon, Ajit Singh and many other developers also spoke at the meet.
Chief Parliamentary Secretary of the Local Bodies department Harish Rai Dhanda, in answer to the accusations, said: “Around 400 illegal colonies exist in Ludhiana and hence such strict measures are a necessity. But I promise to find a solution to this problem.” On Friday evening, Dhanda also led a delegation to meet CM Parkash Singh Badal regarding their demands. The meeting was still in progress at the time of filing this report.
