Smooth sailing for Negi, Kunte suffers defeat

New Delhi Delhi’s Parimarjan Negi is leading the table with eight others at the 7th Parsvnath International Open Chess Tournament with a perfect score after four rounds, even as GM Abhijit Kunte was stunned to defeat by Kazakh International Master Boris Katalymov.

Two more Grandmasters — Uzbekistan’s Saidali Iuldachev and Anuar Ismagambetov — lost their respective matches to Indians C Praveen Kumar and Prathmesh Mokal.

Results: ( Round 4) SP Sethuraman (3.5) drew with Yuriy Kuzubov of Ukraine (3.5), Surya Shekhar Ganguly (3.5) drew with Arghyadip Das (3.5), Olzhas Khamzin of Kazakhstan (3) lost to Parimarjan Negi (4), Abhijit Kunte (3) lost to N Boris Katalymov of Kazakhstan (4), Prathamesh Mokal (4) beat Anuar Ismagambetov of Kazakhstan (3), Saidali Iuldachev of Uzbekistan (3) lost to C Praveen Kumar (4), Suvrajit Saha (3) lost to Shukhrat Safin of Uzbekistan (4), Mikhail Ulibin of Russia (4) beat R Arun Karthik (3), R Ashwath (3) lost to Petr Kostenko of Kazakhstan (4), Atanu Lahiri (3.5) drew with Dibyendu Barua (3.5), Neelotpal Das (3.5) drew with G. B. Joshi (3.5), Vinay Kumar Matta (3.5) drew with M R Lalith Babu (3.5), Utkal Ranjan Sahoo (3) lost to Vidit Gujarati (4), P Magesh Chandran (3.5) beat Fenil Shah (3), Arkadi Eremeevich of Russia (2.5) SPO lost to Evgeny Gleizerov of Russia (3.5).
