Three incidents of snatching were reported from the city in the past 24 hours.
On Friday, four snatching cases were registered by the police.
On Friday morning, three youths on a motorcycle snatched a bag containing Rs 2 lakh from one Des Raj Bansal, the general manager of a private firm, near Kidwai Nagar around 11 am. The snatchers also fired a bullet in the air to create panic.
A youth Vicky, who came to the rescue of Bansal, had a close shave with death as a bullet brushed aside his turban.
After getting the information, senior police officers including SSP Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
Later, the Division number 2 police registered a case against unidentified persons. There was no breakthrough in the case till the filing of this report.
In a similar incident, three motorcycle-borne armed youths snatched the bag from one Rajinder Singh, an employee of a private firm from near the Dholewal Bridge. As there was no cash in the bag, the miscreants left the bag at some distance.
On Thursday night, three unidentified persons snatched the mobile phone, gold chain and bracelet from a vernacular daily employee Mukesh Gautam.
The snatchers thrashed Gautam before making away with the valuables in their car near the Jalandhar byepass. The Salem Tabri police have registered a case against unidentified persons. The snatchers have not been nabbed till now.
In yet another incident, Manju Verma of Sarabha Nagar was robbed of her gold ring and Rs 4,500.
Meanwhile, SSP Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill has assured to keep a check on the snatchings and crime in the city. He said that the patrolling team of the PCR wing would be revamped soon.
