Ahmedabad Surat Khambhati Kshatriya Samaj Trust gives Rs 2.20 lakh for 117 students of 15 city schools

The Surat Khambhati Kshatriya Samaj Trust has paid fees of Rs 2.20 lakh for 117 students of 15 different city schools. The beneficiaries were children of Khambati Samaj diamond polishers who had not paid fees for three months.

With the ongoing slowdown in the diamond industry, several diamond polishers have lost their jobs.

Some diamond polishers have pulled their children out from schools, as they cannot pay the fees.

Earlier, the trust had put up notices for the jobless workers belonging to the Khambati Samaj to contact them for help. It had also distributed forms for that.

The trust members also contacted different schools and took details of the students of Khambati Samaj who had not paid the fees.

On Friday, trust president Nagindas Mahatma with vice president Ishwarlal Mahatma went to 15 different schools in Varachha and Katargam and handed over the cheques.

"We are doing many social activities for the people of our Samaj in the city. We found that several diamond polishers of our Samaj had pulled out their children from schools, failing to pay the fees. We discussed the issue among ourselves and decided to act on it. We want other trusts in the city to come forward to help the diamond polishers," said Nagindas Mahatma.
