Jammu, October 22 A Senior software engineer working with a multi-national company at Mohali, was arrested by the Punjab police here for allegedly torturing his doctor wife for dowry.

The police said the accused, Vikram Khorana, was wanted after his wife got a case registered at the Mohali police station for allegedly torturing her.

The FIR, registered under Section 498-A and 406 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), also listed Vikram's mother Renu Khorana and father Ram Singh Khorana as accused.

Following the rejection of his anticipatory bail, Vikram, who was working in Quark Media House at Mohali, had come to Jammu to evade arrest. His father Ram Singh and mother Renu had, however, got anticipatory bail from the court.

The police, after receiving specific information, raided his father's house at Sector 5 of the Channi Himmat area and arrested him.

Vikram had married Dr Upasana (name changed) in November 2007 and according to reports, her greedy husband, along with the in-laws, started harassing her from day one demanding cash and gift items.

Things went overboard when Renu’s in-laws asked her to go to her parents' house and arrange money for buying a flat for Vikram in Chandigarh. As she refused, Renu was badly beaten and was thrown out of the house. She spent the night while sitting outside the house and later went to the police.

The police tried to sort out differences, but as all efforts failed, an FIR was registered against the accused.

498a misuse by Praveen on 26 Oct 2008

Gone are the days to believe that 498a cases are filed for dowry torture. It could have been nice if this article also changed the name of the accused, not just the projected victim. Without any investigation, Who knows what is truth or what is lie?

Stop this media trial by Virag on 26 Oct 2008

When is the media going to stop this media trial against men. 98 % dowry cases filed are false and filed with an adverse motive to extort money. How does express India know the allegations are true? What if they are proved false? Save Indian Family Foundation urges the media to stop spreading poison in the society and be directly responsible for breaking families and creating a fatherless society.

Express India is biased by Rahul Verma on 26 Oct 2008
