Voters lists of Mumbai will soon be digitised completely, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The civic body has already started the task of computerising the lists of last seven civic elections. Joint Municipal Commissioner (Elections) S S Shinde said several citizens approach the BMC for voters list as it’s a substantial residence proof.

“The list from 1960 is old and the papers have become fragile and soiled. We, therefore, decided to digitise it,” he said. There are around 1,530 lists, since 1960, with 16 lakh pages. These lists will be scanned and saved in PDF format at a cost of Rs 9 lakh.
