As we enter another year, Thane can look forward to dedicated cycling lanes, skywalks, and concrete roads among other facilities. Dedicated lanes for non-motorised transport have been one of the recommendations of the JNNURM adopted by Thane Municipal Corporation. This means a two-metre cycling lane would be included in the 36 km of existing roads that are being concretised. Besides, cycling path would also be included in the 24 km of existing concrete roads.

Pedestrians can expect an easy and safe walk on the roads as TMC is planning to construct 12 skywalks over many busy junctions in the city to decongest roads. Most importantly, the slow pace of construction of SATIS near the Thane railway station area is expected to get over in March 2009.

Also, the busy Kapurbawdi junction would cease to be busy as flyovers would be constructed making the drive along the Ghodbunder road an uninterrupted experience. Thane city is also expected to get three flyovers at Meenathai Thackeray Chowk, Hariniwas junction and at telephone exchange junction at Naupada.

There are plans to upgrade the water supply to 110 MLD along with construction of integration of drainage system. The water supply which is manual would be made automated with a central control room in Thane that would be monitoring the supply of water. Kalwa and Mumbra region of Thane would be getting underground drainage system along with sewage pumping stations and treatment plants.
