Mumbai A long-pending demand for local train services to be extended to Dahanu will soon be met. According to sources, the work on the tracks between Virar and Dahanu is nearing completion and these tracks will be operational later this year.

PC Sehgal, managing director of MRVC, said, “We started the work on this line a year ago and hope to finish it by June this year.” Before extending the service from Virar to Dahanu, two platforms have to be constructed at Dahanu station. “To construct two platforms, an old goods shed was dismantled. We then built a new goods shed at another site,” said an official attached to the Dahanu station.

The official also said, “Now with the construction of a new goods shed, remodelling of the yard has been partially done and will be completed as soon as the work of laying tracks is over on this line.” Also, a foot overbridge from the existing platform at Dahanu station to the newly constructed platforms has been constructed.

The width of tracks on this section has to be increased to accommodate EMU rakes. Other works, including installation of an automatic signalling system and electrical work (OHE) also have to be done.
