Sirsa Sirsa has become the first district in Haryana where cancer patients will be provided teleconference consultation with cancer institutes and hospitals.

At present, consultation costs are high and patients have to seek expensive treatment from faraway cities such as Rohtak, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Delhi and Mumbai. “We have approached the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Regional Cancer Centre, Trivandrum, to make treatment available at our residents’ doorstep,” said Deputy Commissioner S K Goyal. Under the new teleconferencing system, patients’ medical histories, lab samples and tests will be transmitted online to doctors, who will provide medicine and advise preventative measures, said Goyal. An order has been placed for the special software required for the service, he added. Having already made arrangements with pathologists, all tests will be administered locally at nominal rates or free of charge. Free ambulances will also be provided for cancer patients in case of emergencies. Costs associated with the new project will be borne by the District Administration under the Rural Health Mission Scheme.
