Nalini Naegamvala, of the famed Nalini and Yasmin, brings her expertise to South Mumbai

Fancy spas and salons are ubiquitous these days. But before they were so common, there was Nalini & Yasmin, the last name in hair-styling at their (for most) far-out Khar space. Nalini Naegamvala, introducing ‘Nalini’, of Nalini & Yasmin, to South Mumbai, believes the market is huge and there’s space for everyone. “Competition is a great catalyst to strive to be the best,” says the hairstylist whose daughter, Monisha, runs her own salon, Raih, at Nepeansea Road.

Just off the Marine Drive at Chowpatty, the salon is a neat spread with an attached terrace lined with little pretty foliage. Red walls and marble floors give the salon a contemporary look. “Business has to continuously evolve and there is no more scope for me to grow in the Bandra salon. It is inevitable that I expand horizontally and being in South Mumbai seemed the best way to move,” says Naegamvala. She’s also introducing spa services here.

After three decades in the business, Naegamvala found it inevitable to move to South Mumbai for the convenience of their customers from this part of the city. “Our clients came all the way, commuting is too stressful now. And we were always asked why we never had a salon in South Mumbai.”
