Through an adjournment notice in the Zero Hour in the Assembly, Samajwadi Party members alleged that MP Akhilesh Yadav, Leader of Opposition Ahmed Hasan and MLC Rakesh Singh Rana were targeted with rubber bullets and tear gas shells during the party’s agitation programme.
Charging the state government with functioning in an arbitrary manner, the Samajwadi Party members accused it of wanting to crush student movements by force.
In his reply, Leader of the House Swami Prasad Maurya said the state government has to act tough whenever agitations and movements turn violent.
“Under a democratic system, agitations and movements take place but they should not turn violent. No one will be allowed to take law into their hands in the name of demanding restoration of unions,” Maurya said. He added that police did not misbehave with the Samajwadi Party workers, which provoked them to walkout.
Chairman Sukhram Singh Yadav asked for an inquiry into the charges brought in by Samajwadi Party leaders.
