Lucknow The “Kalyan factor” continues to haunt the Samajwadi Party (SP). After Mohammad Azam Khan, another Muslim leader of the party, Moradabad MP Shafikur Rahman Burk has slammed Mulayam Singh Yadav over his friendship with the former BJP leader.

“Every Muslim is against the friendship between Mulayam Singh Yadav and Kalyan Singh. Now, everyone wonders if this friendship existed even on December 6, 1992 — the day the Babri Masjid was demolished,” Burk said, while addressing mediapersons on Thursday.

“Mulayam Singh has ditched the Muslims by joining hands with Kalyan Singh. He has forgotten the sacrifices the community has made for the party. The

Muslims have made him the messiah of their community,” he added.

Though Burk had wanted to contest from the Sambhal Lok Sabha seat, the SP has refused to give him a ticket. Now, he will contest the election from Sambhal as an Independent candidate. Burk clarified he won’t leave the SP, but will continue to expose the “hobnobbing of the Samajwadi Party with communal elements”.

He further said that without the support of the minorities, the SP will cease to exist. “While the Yadavs comprise only seven per cent of the population, Muslims make 25 per cent. We will see whether this party survives with the support of minorities or Kalyan Singh,” Burk said.

Criticising Kalyan Singh, he said: “This leader has worked against humanity and the law of the land on December 6, 1992. Now, he was a challenge to the honour and pride of the minorities.”
