Allahabad The Bhadohi district administration has begun the process to cancel 16 arm licences belonging to Samajwadi Party legislator from Gyanpur, Vijay Mishra and his relatives.

Mishra is a history-sheeter at the Handia police station in Allahabad.

According to the police, Mishra’s 11 relatives, including his son, have obtained 16 arm licences by concealing facts from the administration. All the licence-holders are from Kawalapur village.

Raising eyebrows over the issuance of such a large number of arms licences to Mishra’s family, the state government, following a complaint by a minister, had asked the district administration to initiate an inquiry. The probe, which began five months ago, is in its final stage.

Bhadohi District Magistrate Deepika Duggal said: “According to our inquiry, it appears to be a case of concealment of facts. If the final report reveals any irregularity, the licences will be cancelled. I have requested the district magistrate of Allahabad to send me a report on whether Mishra stays there.”

Originally a resident of Khaptiha village, Mishra has a residence in Allahabad’s Allahapur locality. He, however, had represented the Bhadohi Assembly seat as a resident of Kawalapur village.

On the order of the Bhadohi Superintendent of Police P K Mishra, Additional Superintendent of Police Dadan Pal has been conducting an inquiry against three station officers of Gopiganj police. According to sources, these station officers have not verified facts regarding the criminal history of Mishra’s relatives while recommending them for licences.

“The inquiry is confidential and still on. I will soon send my report to the SP,” said Dadan.

According to police records, history-sheet no. B-2 of Vijay Mishra’s gang members at Handia police station has around 34 criminal cases including murder, loot, extortion and attempt to murder.

It mentions 14 members — Mishra, his wife Ramlali Mishra, brothers Ram Chandra Mishra, Raj Kumar Mishra, nephew Manoj Mishra and Manish Mishra and eight others.

Five sons of Ramji Mishra, the brother of MLA Vijay Mishra, have obtained five licences from Kawalapur village address during the tenure of the Samajwadi Party government. Similarly, Vishnu Mishra, son of Vijay Mishra, who is currently abroad, has obtained three licences from the same address. Manoj Mishra, son of Ram Chandra Mishra has two licences.

While Ashwani Mishra has two licences, Praveen Mishra has one. Anil Kumar Mishra has two and Sanjay Kumar Mishra has one gun licence.

They have all allegedly procured the licences by concealing facts like real addresses and criminal histories.

The MLA, however, denied all allegations. “We did not conceal facts. We will move court if the administration cancels the licenses. I am being victimised because of political rivalry,” said Mishra.
