Lucknow, January 3 Neeraj Shekhar, newly-elected Lok Sabha member from Ballia, said his victory in the by-election was a death blow for the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party government in Uttar Pradesh.

“Despite the state machinery unleashing a reign of terror and the ministers and BSP legislators distributing money and liquor, people of Ballia have rejected them and their social engineering formula,” he said.

Addressing a media conference here today, the youngest son of former Prime Minister Chandra Sekhar maintained that Ballia has always led the “political change” in the country and this time, they have pronounced a death blow to the BSP.

Thanking the people of Ballia for supporting him, he said the BSP’s allegation that feudal forces did not allow Dalits to vote in the by-poll shows their weakness.

“If their allegation is correct, then the Mayawati government should resign on moral grounds, for not providing security to voters,” he added.

He said the BSP government tried its best to rig the polls through different means including camping of over two dozen ministers and 100 MLAs, but the voters gave me their support by showing their love for my father.

He also said his father had always asked him to be in politics on his own capability and thanked SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for continuing his support for the family.

“The SP was the only party which didn’t force me to join the party before the elections, while other parties made a condition to fight the election on their symbol,” he said, adding that it was his own decision to join the SP.
