Ludhiana The recent spate of laptop thefts in the city (see box for details) seems to have the left the city police baffled. When city SSP Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill was asked whether there was any breakthrough in the cases, he replied in the negative. Of the four heists, three occurred in February alone but the police have failed to make any headway.

Honey Arora, owner of Computer Home, Model Town Extension, whose shop was burgled a few days ago said, “It would wrong to say that the police are doing its job. We are the victims and we have had a series of meeting with the city police on the issue.”

Commenting on the nature of thefts that has spanned the city over the last few days, Arora says, “One thing is for sure that these thieves are educated and are part of an organised gang. The situation is such that the number of laptops stolen is very high and this means that they can not be stored at one single place. The stolen laptops are being liquidated at a very fast pace. Our fear is that thieves are dismantling note books and selling it in parts.”
