New Delhi, January 7 In an attempt to curb power theft in the Capital and reach out to the economically weaker sections in the slums, the BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) is launching Project Tatkal, an initiative to provide electricity connections to the urban poor in east and central Delhi. The project will be formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on January 14 at the BSES Chilla Grid in Mayur Vihar, Phase 3.

The initiative involves providing electricity connections within 24 hour of registration. BYPL CEO Arun Kanchan said nearly 40,000 new consumers are expected to register under the new scheme. “Over the next three months, BYPL plans to organise over 100 camps, with the target of acquiring over 40,000 customers, in 50 carefully chosen clusters across BYPL divisions,” said Kanchan.

These clusters include Ballimaran, Baljeet Nagar, Nabi Karim, Kasab Pura, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony, Zaffrabad, Sanjay Amar Colony, Old Seema Puri, New Seema Puri, Kalander Colony, Sonia Vihar, Janta Majdoor Colony, Sriram Colony, Chauhan Bangar, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Sunder Nagri jj Cluster and Old Mustafabad.

These camps will be manned by BYPL officials, who will not only help the applicants fill the forms, but also organise all the necessary documentation, like stamp paper and photographs of the applicants, free of cost. Electricity connections would be released at a nominal cost and the consumers would be given the facility of payments in instalments.

“This scheme, in one stroke, has addressed the three concerns about touts, high initial upfront cost and several trips to complete the formalities,” Kanchan said.
