Vadodara, December 31 While most people in the city celebrated the onset of New Year by throwing parties and dancing, a bunch of children at a school for hearing and speech impaired welcomed 2008 by making paintings.

"The children at Kamlaben Mook Badhir Vidyalaya at Karelibaug surprised their teachers by organising a drawing competition on New Year's eve," said Mehdi Ratta, teacher at the school.

The drawing competition was just one side of the story. The school was cleaned and well decked for making the children feel special on the occasion. The decoration at their hostel was done with materials made by the students, who enjoyed a special meal on the occasion. But, like most of the little ones, the junior school residents would get the sweets in the morning.

On the first day of the New Year, the trustees along with the Principal will also give away surprise gifts to the children. This will be followed by a prize distribution for the drawing competition. Nanalal Tokshi, former Mayor of Vadodara, will be the chief guest.

Meanwhile, the school is also contemplating starting a college for impaired students, but is waiting for funds.
