Chandigarh A 22-year-old boy died after his motorcycle crashed into a divider between the Sector 52 and 53 roads late on Wednesday night. The deceased, identified as Damanjeet, a resident of Phase 4 in Mohali, was reportedly overspeeding. The impact of the collision was such that the youth’s helmet was crushed into pieces.

The police received a call about the accident around midnight. They rushed to spot and found the victim bleeding profusely. Damanjeet succumbed to his injuries on the way to the PGI.

“There is no evidence that the victim was hit by another vehicle. Damanjeet was returning home after attending a party at his friend’s house in Sector 24,” said police post incharge of Sector 61, Sub-Inspector Baldev Kumar.

An eyewitness told the police that Damanjeet was driving at a high speed when he lost control. The bike skid on the road and collided with the road divider while the youth’s head was struck in the iron grill.

Damanjeet was employed with an insurance company. His father Avtar Singh Kalsi, who is working with a security agency, said: “We were waiting for him; he told us he would return by 12. At 12.30 am, the police informed us of his accident. When we reached the hospital, he had already been declared dead by the doctors,” he said.

The body was handed over to the family after conducting a postmortem. The police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.
