Mohali To tip parents on ways to bring up their children, a workshop, ‘The making of Next Generation Whiz Kids’, was organised at The Millennium School on Sunday.

Child psychologist Dr Bindu Rana talked about a “multi-dimensional approach” to bring up a child.

With special emphasis on the optimisation of endeavours on part of parents and teachers alike, the workshop introduced tips for effective parenting to over 300 couples who attended the event. The workshop also focused on the challenges and issues faced by parents.

The amount of time parents spend with their child is very important and crucial, said the expert while adding that parents should spend quality time with kids to strengthen their bond. Other special activities like planning a weekend for their child and allied gestures too go a long way in strengthening the child-parent relationship, added Dr Rana.

The discussion was followed by a skit, ‘The Time Robber’, which drove home the point that the greatest gift that parents can give to their children is a commitment of time. Accepting the fact that parenting in the 21st century is one of the most challenging jobs, the two-hour workshop also stressed on the need to praise children in a positive way, motivate them and applaud their achievements and good work.
