After remixing innumerable Bollywood songs in clubs, DJs it seems are leaving the parties for Bollywood. After DJ Sumeet Sethi, who got his first Bollywood break with the forthcoming Jugaad, Delhi’s 23-year-old Nikhil Sahni, better known in the party circuit as DJ Nyk, had his first brush with Bollywood the same way, with Shahrukh Khan and the Irrfan Khan starrer Billu. And it is his House Mix of the track Love mera hit hit sung by Neeraj Shridhar and Tulsi Kumar that brings him into the limelight. “It’s an up tempo progressive house track with a bit of rap which is what my style of music is,” says Sahni, whose remix has also been chosen as the tune of the week on BBC UK Asian Networks. Although the music for the film has been composed by Pritam, Sahni says their interaction was minimal. “Having to create the official remix of a song does curtail some creative freedom since it’s the music director’s decision,” explains Sahni, who admits that he would have made the song even faster, at 130 beats per minute (bpm) instead of 123 bpm as required by Pritam. “I know how fast a tune can get party goers grooving. But I’m glad as this is the best way Bollywood gates could open for me with names like Shahrukh Khan, Pritam and Neeraj Shridhar,” says Sahni.
