Sidharth, Vishwas shine in Punjab win
Dharamsala: Sidharth Kaul wreaked havoc with a six-wicket haul before Vishwas Bhalla hit an unbeaten 108 to help Punjab inflict a comprehensive eight-wicket defeat on hosts Himachal Pradesh in their inconsequential North-Zone Ranji one-dayer here today. Assured of a quarterfinal place, the hosts were tottering at 17 for 5 at one stage but managed to score 205 runs after put in to bat. It was for the efforts of Ajay Manu, who top scored with 72-run knock and Sarandeep Singh's 50 that the hosts could cross the 200-run mark. Medium pacer Kaul rocked the Himachal boat with a brilliant spell and played a major part in hosts' first defeat in the league stage. It was difficult for the hosts to defend such a small total and Punjab batsmen hardly struggled to overhaul the target at HPCA stadium. The visitors took 38.5 overs to eke out a consolation win as disappointment of not qualifying for the next level will haunt them for a long time.
Brief Scores:
Himachal Pradesh:205 all out in 49.4 overs (Ajay Manu 72, Sarandeep Singh 50; Sidharth Kaul 6/39).
Punjab:207 for the loss of 2 wickets in 38.5 overs (Vishwas Bhalla 108 not out).
