YPS annual athletic meet gets underway
MOHALI:
Amrinder Singh Bhullar grabbed first position in the boys U-16 section of shot put, while Gurfateh Phulka and Sarabjit Singh finished at second and third spots respectively, in the 30th Annual Athletic Meet of Yadavindra Public School, S.A.S. Nagar, held on Tuesday. In javelin throw, Rainer Singh bagged the top spot, while Varinder Singh was declared second. In the broad jump category, Patwant cornered glory, whereas in 800m race Mehnaz Preet emerged as champion. In the girls' section, it was Jaskiram who claimed top honours in discus throw, while Daanish Ghuman stood first in broad jump. Earlier, the meet got underway as the school sports captain Zorawar Singh Suri, took oath on behalf of all the students.

U-16 (Boys): Shot Put: 1 Amrinder Singh Bhullar, 2 Gurfateh Phulka, 3 Sarabjit Singh;

U-14 (Boys): Javelin Throw: 1 Rainer Singh, 2 Varinder Singh;

U-10 (Boys): Broad Jump: 1 Patwant, 2 Avvalroop, 3 Sargun;

U-14 (Boys): 800 m: 1 Mehnaz Preet, 2 Dhruv, 3 Jobanpreet;

U-15 (Girls): Discus Throw: 1 Jaskiran, 2 Parul, 3 Harshini;

U-11 (Girls): Broad Jump: 1 Daanish Ghuman, 2 Karman Parmar, 3 Harleen Deol

U-13 (Girls): High Jump: 1 Sandeep Kaur Grewal, 2 Jigasha Dosajn, 3 Amandeep Benipal.

Dalbir Academy triumphs
PATIALA:
Dalbir Academy registered a comfortable win over Khalsa College, Yamuna Nagar by a huge margin of 4-0 in the first match of the first All India 'Jathedar Mohan Singh Toor' Memorial Football Tournament played at Raja Bhalendra Singh Stadium, Punjabi University, Patiala, on Tuesday. Dalbir Academy scored their first goal by a penalty which was successfully converted to a goal by Pua. Later in the 34th minute Manpreet Singh struck again scoring their second goal. During the start of the second half, Pawandeep Singh and Gagandeep Singh kicked the ball twice into the goal to take the score to 4-0 to win the match.

Jeev pitted against Poulter in WGC Rd 1
ARIZONA:
Jeev Milkha Singh was pitted against English Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter in the first round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship beginning here tomorrow. Of the 32 pairs in fray, Jeev and Poulter begin last at The Ritz Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain. Put in the Gary Player bracket, the winner of the Jeev-Poulter battle would meet either Sergio Garcia or Charl Schwartzel in the next round. Jeev Milkha Singh finished tied 39th after signing off with a sedate two-under 69 at the Northern Trust Open golf tournament on Monday. Jeev sank four birdies against a couple of bogeys to end with an aggregate of five-under 279 at the Riviera Country Club. Indian-born Swede Daniel Chopra (288) turned in his second successive card of three-over 74 to finish tied 72nd.
