Ludhiana After repeated incidents of damaging acts of various cultural events in the name of sports tournaments at the Guru Nanak Stadium, the Sports Department is planning to totally ban the use of the stadium for non-sporting events. Pargat Singh, Director Sports, Punjab has sought a detailed report from the District Sports Officer (DSO) and the Deputy Director Sports. After this matter was recently reported by the newspapers about the damage done to the stadium allegedly by the organisers of two Kabbaddi tournaments, Singh took up the matter and has sought a report from the from his subordinate officers. Confirming the development, Pargat Singh told Newsline on phone, “So far I have come to know about this situation only through verbal communication. I want to confirm it by myself so I sought a detailed report from the local officers.”

He also confirmed that if it was established that these events had damaged the stadium, he would ban such type of cultural events in the stadium because this can damage the sports infrastructure. It may be mentioned here that on December 19 and 20 last year, the Canada-America Kabadi cup was organised at the stadium and on the conclusion of this tournament, famous Punjabi singer Gurdas Mann performed. During the cultural function, spectators turned out in stadium in big numbers and they also damage the railing of the stadium. When contacted, J.S. Bhandari, DSO said he will send a detailed report to directors as soon as possible. He said that he will also request for a ban on the cultural activities in the stadium.
