Vadodara Sardar Patel University (SPU) based in Vallabh Vidyanagar near Anand hopes to get National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) rating by Sunday.

NAAC is scheduled to meet at Bangalore on Sunday and the university’s rating will be uploaded on the Committee’s website, said university officials. It was during February this year that NAAC members had visited this 53-year-old university for scrutiny.

Professor B G Patel, the vice-chancellor of the SPU, said, “SPU was the first university in Gujarat to apply for NAAC rating in 2000. It was during February that NAAC Chairman Professor S S Katiyar visited the varsity after university submitted the Re-Accreditation Report (RAR).”

B Natrajan, SPU Registrar, said, “ Earlier, the system of NAAC ratings was different and any university could five stars, which is the highest award. However, the rating system has changed now and under the new system, the universities are awarded A, B or C grades.”

Around five years ago, the M S University, SPU and Saurashtra University had got four stars, said university sources.

The NAAC rating is based on several issues including teacher-students ratio, research publications and infrastructures, said SPU officials.
