Vadodara The Sir Sayajirao General (SSG) Hospital finally implemented the additional charges for indoor and outdoor patients on Monday. The charges include Rs 5 for registration of case and Rs 10 per day for indoor patients.

The additional charges collected from the patients will be deposited with the Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS). As per the hospital authorities, the funds will be utilised to cater to the various necessities of the hospital as also the welfare of the patients.

But while the charges have been implemented, the hospital authorities are yet to decide on the areas where the funds will be utilised.

A separate committee has been formulated to monitor the funds and decide on the procedure of the expenditure.

“A regulatory board consisting of various members of the hospital and NGOs, with a state level convenor, will decide on the priority of issues where the funds can be utilised,” said Ranjan Wala, additional collector and executive officer, SSG.

The new charges implemented will exclude the patients of BPL category, the hospital staff, senior citizens and government officials. Similar charges are already in place in other general and civil hospitals.

Wala said: “We do not expect these charges to be a burden on the patients as they are already being levied at other places. We are rather late in implementing it.”

On the first day though, the collection did not prove to be very encouraging due to confusion among the office bearers themselves. “It was only in the afternoon that new charges were properly implemented. There was not much collection on the first day since most patients visit the hospital in the morning hours,” said an administrative official at SSG.
