New Delhi On Sunday evening, alumni of the St Stephen’s College gathered to reminisce about their college days. The college celebrated the 128th College Day with cultural programmes and a panel discussion.

Justice Manmohan Sarin, Lokayukta, National Capital Territory of Delhi, said the spirit of a Stephenanian does not mean studying together, but “lighting a fire in the belly to pursue excellence.” “St Stephen’s gave unlimited freedom of discussion where questions were encouraged,” he added.

On a lighter note, Salman Khurshid, lawyer and politician, joked about learning how to lose elections in college. “I lost my first election in Stephen’s and since then have lost many,” he said.

Gurmeet Singh, Proctor, Delhi University, Raja Randhir Singh, Vijay Chibber, George Abraham and Shahlaa Khan, Khurshid and Sarin were panellists during a discussion on ‘St Stephen’s: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’. Principal Reverend Valson Thampu said the discussion connected the past and the present, as alumni of various ages were on the panel. “We are proud of the 128-year-old institute with a great name and stirring traditions,” he said.
