This championship will witness a participation of about 800 players and technical officials from teams of different states and paramilitary forces affiliated to JFI.
Many international players like Garima Chaudhary, Ram Asrey Yadav, Veer Bahadur Thapa and Landhoni Devi from UP will be participating in the championship. Teams of ITBP, Tripura, Punjab, Chandigarh, SSB, Manipur, Karnataka and Assam have already arrived, the UPJA officials informed.
The competitions will be held in 8 weight categories for both men and women. As such there will be eight golds, eight silvers and 16 bronze at stake in the men’s section and an equal number of medals in the women's section.
Addressing mediapersons, president UPJA KL Gupta said that the organisation of this event is bound to give a boost to the popularity of judo in the state. It is also aimed to attract many private, semi government and government organisations to come forward in a big way and sponsor the promotion of judo in India. This event will also serve as a medium to the judokas and officials to observe the level they have to achieve and how hard each one has to learn or train to achieve it.
The draw will be held on February 26. The tournament will be inaugurated by Dr Vikram Singh, DGP UP at 10:30 am on February 27.
The closing ceremony of the event will take place at 5.00 pm on March 1. Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta, president UP Olympic Association will preside over the closing function.
