The party’s state wing is most likely to increase the number of seats in the executive to accommodate new women candidates. This will, however, not change the district chiefs of the party. State BJP vice-president and spokesperson H N Dixit said very soon senior leaders will be holding a meeting to decide the modalities of implementing the women’s reservation in the party.
The meeting will be held after the party’s February 10 rally in Rampur. “We will fill the quota within a month,” said Dixit.
At present, there are only 15 women in the 204-member party executive in the state and as per the new norms 67 women are to be inducted.
The state leadership has proposed to increase the number of state executive from 204 to 245. In the district units, the situation is worse as only four district presidents of the 70 in the state are women.
Regarding the district units, the state leadership is not in a mood to change the incumbent presidents. “Instead, 33 per cent quota will be implemented in the district executive and it is not necessary to change the president,” said a senior party leader.
