A GSPC spokesperson said an 800-km pipeline will be added to the network. At present, it is in different stages of planning and implementation. He said it will be built in two phases, and involves the laying of a high-pressure trunk pipeline to link the centres of demand and supply.

At present, GSPL has an operational pipeline network of nearly 1,400 km along Hazira-Vadodara-Ahmedabad-Kalol-Himmatnagar-Mehsana-Rajkot-Morbi-Vapi, covering 15 districts, and transporting 20 million standard cubic metres gas per day, including a large volume of regasified LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas).

GSPL has said that some of the major pipelines under construction are the 190 km Bhadbhut-Gana-Hadala pipeline, the 110 km Rajkot-Jamnagar-Vadinar pipeline and the 60 km Padamla-Godhra pipeline.

Besides, the tender process is being initiated for the 215 km Darod-Pipavav and the 182 km Morbi-Mundra pipelines. The 70-km Mehsana-Palanpur pipeline is also in the planning stage.

GSPC has also entered into a tie-up with Reliance Gas Transportation Infrastructure Limited (RGTIL) for connecting Gujarat with the gas-rich Krishna-Godavari basin. With the commissioning of RGTIL’s 48-inch 1,440 km east-west pipeline, gas will soon reach Bharuch. GSPL will transport gas from Bharuch to Rajkot, and thereafter carry it to Jamnagar via the newly laid pipelines.
