Ludhiana The gateway Rail has formally opened Punjab’s first rail-linked logistics park at Sahnewal.

With this, the company becomes the first private container train operator of the Indian Railways to have three terminals with the other two at

Gurgaon and Navi Mumbai. Though the rail movement was started on December 19, the company announced a formal launch today afternoon.

The 100-crore project is spread over 50 acres. “At the moment, Concor is the only PSU handling the load and their capacity is barely 12,000 containers per month, while Punjab has a demand of nearly 30,000 containers per month. So, an additional facility was a must,” said Rajnish Kumar, Chief Operating Officer, Gateway Rail.

Prem Kishan Gupta, MD of the company, said: “Trains will operate thrice a week to Mundra port in Gujarat, besides a daily service to Mumbai. We also have road-connectivity and 235 wagons dedicated to ensure that we pick up stuff from the production unit and deliver it exactly where the client desires.”

The company also plans to operate regular services between iron and steel producing states of West Bengal, Orissa and Bihar. “At the moment, the company has two full rail lines for this purpose and plans to add two more,” he added.
