Ferozepur, January 3 The Punjab government has embarked on an ambitious plan to develop the Indo-Pakistan joint checkpost at Hussainiwala as a major tourist destination. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has already sent Rs 25 lakh to the district administration as the first installment to start work on the project, Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Revenue) Sukhpal Singh Nannu said.

Presiding over a meeting of a high-powered committee constituted to oversee the beautification of the joint checkpost and adjoining National Martyrs' Memorial, Singh said keeping in view the huge traffic of visitors, it has been decided to expand the seating gallery so as to accommodate at least 10,000 people.

In addition to expanding the visitors' gallery, facilities like conference room and rest-house would be made available to the Border Security Force (BSF), besides beautifully landscaping the entire area, Deputy Commissioner Bhagwant Singh told the meeting.
