On the first day today, 3,600 students of government schools from various districts of the state visited the science city. Sources said in order to avail of the grant, the Education Department has decided to take 3,000 to 4,000 students daily to the science city. Maximum number of students will have to be taken within two weeks, as after that they will get busy with examination. Students who visited the Science City today too said such trips should be organised often.

After seeing the poor interest of children in science subjects, the government had announced a scheme to take 50,000 students of government schools to the Science City. This, the government felt, would improve their knowledge about science.

The Rs 1.25-crore scheme was announced by the government on January 24, 2008. Even after one year, not a penny was spent, and no student was taken there. The grant was sanctioned in November 2008, and 50,000 students from Class V to Class XII were to be taken to Science City.
