Quoting from his letter to Chidambaram, Bhuniya said: “The paramilitary forces were deployed in Lalgarh and Jangalmahal following requests by Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. Unfortunately, the force is being misutilised by the state administration. Since law and order is a state subject, the state administration is responsible for maintaining the same and by taking advantage of this, the ruling Marxists are misutilising the Central forces for their own interests.”
The CLP chief also said Bengal is a “fit case for imposition of Article 355 as murders are taking places in the state everyday”. People in many parts of the state — including West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura and some pockets in Hooghly district — are not in a position to enjoy their democratic rights under Articles 14, 19, 21 and 22 of the Constitution. “Naturally, the Centre can think about imposition of Article 355 in the state to protect the democratic rights of the people of West Bengal.”
Bhuniya also complained that three CPM leaders, minister Sushanta Ghosh, former party MP Anil Bose and Amiya Patra, CPM’s Bankura district secretary, were responsible for spreading tension and violence in some parts of the state and should be stopped from carrying out such activities.
He, however, refused to comment on Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s observations that the Centre did not have the intent to tackle the Maoists in West Bengal and they had sent the Central forces to provide oxygen to the ruling CPM.
“Mamata Banerjee is a member of the Union Cabinet and I do not have anything to say on her comments,” Bhuniya said.
