State not giving land for Metro projects, says Mamata

Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee has complained that the state government is helping to implement the Metro Railway expansion projects, which the Railways wants to carry out within the time limit. The projects, according to her, will cover a large area of North and South suburban of Kolkata and Salt Lake. “The state government has failed to identify land for the expansion projects,” Banerjee said on Thursday.

The projects — announced in the Railways budget for the current financial year — will expand Metro services from Burranagar to Barrackpore, New Garia to Dum Dum via Rajarhat and Joka to BBD Bag via Rajarhat. “Their non-cooperation with the Railways authorities have stalled these projects, as a result people will suffer,” she said. State Transport minister Ranjit Kundu, meanwhile, said, the state government has no idea that Railways requires land for the expansion of these projects. “We have not received any communication from the Railways,” said Kundu.

Metro Rail Expansion in Kolkata by Joydeep Ghosh on 31 Aug 2010

I beleive there should not be any politics in the development projects. Its all of our duty to co operate her for the Metro expansion because at a last we will be benefitted. I would like to request to expand the metro rail till Sonarpur. May be there can be another line fom Baruipur to Barasat via Sonarpur, Garia, Jadavpur, Gariahat, Sealdah, Dunlop.

Mamata's ire by P.Baneree on 28 Aug 2010

Mamata Banejee is perhaps being paid in her own coin. She's non co-operated with the state administration at every step. She's not even allowed to plant three polls at Rajarhat for transmission of electricty despite repeated requests.People have paid dearly for her poltics of non-coperation.History simply repeats itself,Miss.Banerjee.I'm sure you'd not dare publish my comment as Mamata Banerjee'd not take it kindly.Any way, still I'd keep writing in your comment box. Thanks your honest and unbiased journlism.
