State team for ‘special’ basketball tournament selected

Pune Fifteen boys and girls from the various districts of Maharashtra were selected to represent the state in the national level basketball competition for the mentally challenged after the state level competition was held at the Paraplegic Home, Queen Mary Institute, Khadki.

This competition was organized by Bharat Maharashtra and Bal Kalyan Sanstha and conducted by the Aliens Group, an organization that takes active part in social work. Seven districts in the boys and girls section participated in this tournament. Out of these seven districts, fifteen players were selected.

Girls: Amruta Mirajkar, Anagha Chavan, Minu Shah, Swati Mahatke, Jyotsna Mahatke, Prachi Angre, Laxmi Pawar, Archana Z, Payal Pravin, Surekha D, Ashwini K, Kalyani Sadhu, Puja Pawar, Gulshan M.

Boys: Shailesh Bhumik, Ninad Ghode, Rayan D'Souza, Ritesh Kadam, Pratik Gadge, Prasad Kachre, Amey More, Govind Ramchandani, Mahesh Shelar, Abhijit Marathe, Aakash Kurade, Prashant Pawar, Ganesh Bavandekar, Mandeep Negi.

These fifteen players will now take part in a national camp, after which there will be a selection trial for the Indian team.

This team will then represent the country in the special Olympics scheduled to take place in 2011 in Athens.
