Ahmedabad The Indian Association of Physics Teachers, Gujarat Chapter, in association with the Gujarat Science City (GSC), will organise a state-level workshop on communicating science on Sunday at GSC, Ahmedabad.

Dr Narottam Sahoo, senior scientist, GSC, said that formal teaching and learning of science in schools and colleges tends to “overlook subtle aspects” like scientific approach and scientific temper. “Therefore, science writers and communicators need to take the responsibility of inculcating these qualities among the students. The workshop will provide a platform for exchange of relevant ideas among the participants,” he added.

Sahoo further said that the most important challenge is to bring interest

and excitement about the developments in science among the school and college students.

“Even parents as well as the community members need to be sensitised about the importance of science,” he said, adding that the workshop will help them

understand the vast field of science and learn how to best communicate science to the people.

Former director of Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, Dr S P Pandya will inaugurate the workshop. Notable scientists and science writers will hold interactive sessions. Experts like Dr K N Joshipura, Head, Department of Physics, Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Dr D Lal, eminent scientist and former director of PRL, Urvish Kothari, a science writer, Prof Prasant Acharya, Dr T C Pandya and Dr Pranav Trivedi will also speak at the event.
