This was announced by Kapil Grover, of Gover Vineyards Ltd. at a press conference on Thursday, where he said the event has now grown into the biggest inter-club event for amateurs in the country.
The championship will be played on a round robin Ryder Cup matchplay format, each team represented by 24 players, of whom 21 play each day. From each club, three players will play the singles, three players comprise the foursomes and six pairs will compete in the fourball matchups. As a new initiative this year, to involve senior members of the clubs as well as encourage youngsters, it will be mandatory for each club to have six members above the age of 50 and try to include at least four players below the age of 21. Of course, they will have to meet the handicap requirement of 15 and below for men and 18 and below for women.
BPGC will have the youngest player in 13-year-old Rohan Sharma, who has a handicap of 13. The four clubs are armed with their best golfers, chosen after a rigorous selection process, but on paper, BPGC have the strongest lineup, with 13 players boasting of a single handicap. With all the teams having put in at least three practice rounds at the host club, the home advantage will also not hold too many cards for WSC.
While US Club have won five titles, BPGC, who have won four, will be looking for their fifth and they have the players to do, namely leading amateurs like Amit Nigam, Nohar Nath, Shivas Nath and Ajay Patel.
Hosts WSC will be looking for strong performances from players like 6 handicapper Akshay Khilachand, Besides vice captain Rahul Divan, Riaz Batliwala, Jamsheed Mehta, Rohit Poddar, Kushaal Thackersey and Dhruv Toshniwal, all single handicappers.
