Mumbai A woman was murdered by her stepchildren in Worli on Monday night. The victim Salma Gulab Hussain Sheikh (35) was the second wife of Gulab Sheikh who used to work as a tailor. Gulab Shaikh had five children from a previous marriage. He had married Salma after his first wife’s demise. According to the Tardeo police, at 7:00pm on Monday two of Salma’s stepchildren— Anvar Hussain (22) and his sister (16)— along with their cousin Ashfaq Sheikh (20) allegedly strangled her to death at their house at B V Patel Nagar in Worli. Salma’s brother Ghulam Sheikh, who witnessed the incident, later informed the police about the murder. The trio were held at Bandra when they tried to flee after committing the crime. According to the Tardeo police, the accused claimed that the victim used to harass Anvar as he couldn’t find a job. Apparently, after getting fed up with her, Anvar decided to murder her. The Tardeo police have filed a case of murder against the three accused and have produced them in the court for their custody.

“The accused claim that Salma used to harass them,” said an officer attached to Tardeo Police station. “The three accused strangled Salma to death using her dupatta. Ghulam Sheikh, the victim’s brother, witnessed the incident from the neighbouring room. Hearing some sounds of protest, he climbed on some furniture and looked into the room from a space between the roof and the wall,” he added.
