The Kolkata Police had arrested Bagaria on March 24. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Kolkata, had rejected the bail plea of Bagaria on March 25. Following this, Bagaria had filed a bail petition in the Calcutta High in the last week of April.
Opposing the bail petition, public prosecutor Asimesh Goswami pleaded that the key of the collapsible gate leading from the stair case to the terrace in block II was in his custody. Seventeen people lost their lives as the collapsible gate was closed during the fire.
