Kolkata The Opposition combine of Trinamool Congress and the Congress plans to take on Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in the state Assembly on Thursday over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. However, they are dependent on the sound system to execute their plan.

Incidentally, the brief winter session of the state legislature, which began on November 30, was adjourned till December 10 following a snag in the sound system.

Today, legislators from all political parties inspected the sound system in the state Assembly, but they were not satisfied with the repair work done by the Public Works Department (PWD).

Though State PWD Minister Kshiti Goswami assured the members today that the sound system will be fine on Thursday when the House meets, MLAs from various political parties are not satisfied with the department’s initiative to make the sound system fault-free.

“Recording of the House’s proceedings might not be done on Thursday as the system has not yet been repaired properly. Naturally, we are in doubt whether the House would meet to discuss serious issues like law and order on Thursday,” said Asit Mal of the Congress who was among those MLAs who inspected the system today.

Trinamool Congress, with its increased strength in the state Assembly, is planning to raise the law and order issue in the House and is gearing up to oppose certain bills which the government plans to introduce in the brief winter session.

“I presume that the state government is not willing to face the Opposition in the state Assembly this time and that is why they are not making a serious effort to repair the system,” a senior Trinamool Congress MLA said, on condition of anonymity.

However, the Opposition on Tuesday made it clear that they will take a serious step if the system fails again on Thursday.
